What is CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)?
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is very much the buzzword therapy of our time, popular for its excellent results and for how quickly those results can happen. It is a flexible approach in changing maladaptive or rigid ways of thinking and feeling. Negative or anxious thought patterns grow over time and often become problematical belief systems. It is not the events themselves but the meaning a person gives them that causes problems in peoples’ lives. By identifying these negative thoughts and perceptions, the therapist can evaluate and change the way the client is thinking and ultimately feeling.
CBT can be used for a wide range of presenting problems. It has been discovered with extensive research that as CBT teaches the client coping skills and strategies for the future there is a very low relapse rate. Combining CBT with hypnotherapy leads to an even quicker and more effective recovery.
